The Guaranyis were not mainly hunters. Hunting takes a lot of energy and time. Instead, they devised a number of trapping methods specific to different types of animals. This photo shows an armadillo trap. It's a bundle of long sticks tied tightly at the top. The tall bundle of sticks would be filled with delicious leaves, and placed over the top of an armadillo den. The animals would come out if their lair, eat the leaves, and become wedged in the cone. When the Guaranyis returned, they would free the female armadillos but take and eat the older males. This was a way the managed the population to ensure there would always be more food in the future.
