Through the rain forest

The forest here is not tropical. It's called the Atlantic rainforest. Very wet, but colder than a tropical forest. The earth pathway was deep red packed mud, probably always moist. Fat drops of water fell on us as we walked, and every surface was wet. At one point we crossed a handmade bridge over a stream of slow-moving water. The bridge was made of hand-hewn boards, with homemade rope and tree branches for sides.
