Crafts

Another way the Guaranyis market their culture is through the sale of traditional handmade crafts. The families of the village make their own crafts and each gets a table in the "store." The government-built store is really a large open-sided grass-roofed structure with large handmade tables ringing the sides. We had the chance to see--or buy--handmade jewelry made out of seeds and nuts, bows and arrows, blow dear guns, mate gourds, maracas made of gourds, carved and painted animal figures, and carved spears. There were also woven baskets and cases in the traditional Guaranyi patterns. Not to spoil any surprises, but there may be quite a few blow dart guns heading home...
