Manaus opera house

We walked up to the opulent old opera house this morning, just a block from our hotel. This opera house was finished in 1896, after 15 years of building work. Most of the materials were shipped from Europe; the wealth here in the amazon was incredible, with rubber being worth almost as much as gold.
